Modern Racism May 2018

Modern Racism

Modern Racism is just the same as ancient prejudice and racism, and discrimination.

It sadly still circulates today, with the rise of people of different heritages in the UK and USA. Racists take their posts and language, and behaviour back to the prehistoric battleground, because now they have nothing. It involves remarks and actions, which though may appear subconscious, are in actuality very conscious and in fact, very demeaning to people who are on the receiving end.

Thankfully there are better laws in place now to prosecute and point out the flaws in our society, even if it is in media or on television.

With the boost of cultural communities in the UK and USA like, Chinese, Afro-Caribbean, Asian, Saudi Arabian, Turkish, Moroccan, Tunisian, socio-economic development has increased and people benefit from their hard work. However Modern Racism boils down to reducing these good people of different backgrounds and origins from ever achieving; to belittle and shame for the modern racist to gain.  Nowadays what may sound like a 'snide remark' or 'joke' is in fact, a racist speaking, and their is no equality in their own mind.

Socio-economic development in these communities within UK and USA, reap positive results but modern racism still does tend to hide in plain sight. What may come across as slightly friendly is in fact, insulting and racist gibberish. Political projects, policies and also media for centuries have attempted to reduce, restrain, and constrict this development, and it was in previous times also harnessed for 'white supremacy' to take control, which was seen in South Africa, before the apartheid movement in 1960.

Nelson Mandela said, "There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."

Nowadays however, people are more alert and aware to people of different backgrounds and faiths.  Understanding all people are unique and all people are different, is a good place to start.

Social development, has created change in white supremist attitudes radically in the UK, USA and the rest of Europe, and those who once were so dependent on such racist ideology are waning, and waning hard.

Jack Whitehall: Training Days

Modern Racism, usually entails a 'white supremist' attitude.  Take for example, the recent comedy sketch by Jack Whitehall,  "Training Days".  His comedy channel on Youtube.com has a pre-world cup special, but there is nothing funny about this individual's comments and how he makes the other players come across.

It is a comedy channel,  however the comedy video is insulting and demeaning to Afro-Caribbeans. It also promotes a white supremist attitude, attempting to make an example of UK citizens with Afro-Caribbean heritage, at a comedic expense. Comment's like at 4:49mins "I've always fancied myself a bit of a bad man." He says this before trying Caribbean food. The negative connotations are clear.  He's clearly creating a separate identity for himself, and another for the football player who is from the UK and proud of his citizenship. As citizens of a nation, cultural heritage bears no difference to another citizen.  It for sure does not make another person bad for trying different food.

Being from the UK is a pride and joy for people who have achieved success and their culture may be a small part of that success, however this part of someone's life should never at any expense or cost be ridiculed in a way which is then, presented as 'normal comedy'.

It becomes apparent the racial difference between the presenter and football player is being highlighted or stressed for a racist audience.  Manchester and London are two very diverse cities, and the language and comedy is very indicative of Modern Racism.  Hate disguised as love almost.

The second football player in this comedy is then, reduced to a horror house, with a severed head, and this is very much not-in-line with, today's modern social norm of television comedy, all things considered.

The presenter and footballer just argue on how the presenter is not amusing and only confusing.  The third football player also appears highly vexed and dazed as to what is happening. The players are finally forced to say, the comedy is not working. Body language does also demonstrate the comedy is not working.  There is also a tense moment when the presenter gives a question on players not being able to speak English, which is deleted from the tenth minute of the Youtube.com video transcript, completely bizarre.

2018 world cup football players are well-rehearsed in understanding cultural, racial, and language barriers, differences, and difficulties.  'When will this type of racist comedy end??' It actually is a weapon for bigotry. It was never funny back in 1900s, 1800s, and before, and it is not ever funny or acceptable.

It is racism carefully stylised as comedy, which plays on the skewed racist patriotism of UK life dating centuries, making racist jokes at the expense of differences in, for example food and athletic  behaviour.  Clearly from the players' comments in this video - they are not enjoying themselves as much as they should.

This type of comedy is completely unacceptable in today's modern world and with the imminent 2018 world cup in Russia, promoting cultural toleration and fun among all nations, it is our differences which is a celebration. They never should be mocked.

It is a pure example of, "not what it says on the tin".  It is meant to be a comedy but the jokes are simply putting it, not jokes.  There is a deeper layer which has to be uncovered which the average audience and onlooker may not know. Some Modern Racists still operate in plain sight, hungry to showcase their stylised abuse in whatever trade and form they disguise as acceptable and normal, but in truth, it is just absolutely without question, racial discrimination and wrong.
